Supporting Your Choice to Live Independently
Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. (CVACL) supports older adults and persons with disabilities to live with dignity in accordance with their own personal choice.
The staff of CVACL are your local experts in aging and can help older adults, caregivers and persons with disabilities navigate the joys and challenges that come with aging and caregiving and connect them to the services and supports needed to “Live Their Best Life” in Central Virginia, including the City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell.
CVACL began in 1975 as the Commission on Aging. The Agency grew and changed over the years, and in 2014 became The Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. CVACL continues to operate as the local designated Area Agency on Aging, providing the traditional Older Americans Act programming to include Comprehensive Assessment, Meals on Wheels for Seniors, Dial-A-Ride Medical Transportation, Information and Referral, Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance, Care Coordination, Weatherization and a range of other services focused on health and wellness for older adults and persons with disabilities. In the past six years, CVACL’s services have expanded significantly to include the whole spectrum of the aging population and individuals living with disabilities. Programing has expanded to include comprehensive evidence-based disease and falls prevention coaching and classes, active aging initiatives including walking and hiking clubs, book and mahjong groups and trips. Options counseling and “Take Charge,” a Care Transitions Model, continue to grow and thrive.
