Meals on Wheels for Seniors

Meals on Wheels for Seniors delivers nutritious, well-balanced meals to individuals unable to leave their home or prepare a meal for themselves.

Depending on your location, you may receive your meals in one of two ways:

  • Hot meals delivered three to five days per week.

  • Ten chilled meals, delivered every other week, which stay fresh when refrigerated for 14 days.

This is a wrap around service which ensures:

  • You will be visited and assessed by a Care Manager to help you identify your needs .

  • You will benefit from weekly interaction and contact with drivers delivering a hot meal directly to your home.

                                               Or

  • if you are receiving chilled meals, you will be checked on regularly by our checking service to answer questions, determine your satisfaction with meals and inquire about your well-being.

CVACL provides donated pet food to homebound seniors receiving Meals on Wheels for Seniors who have pets in their home.  The service supports individuals in maintaining the health of their pets; maintaining the ability to keep their pets; and gives support in avoiding the sharing of nutritious meals planned for the senior. Everyone is happy when we bring the pet food supplements to the home!

Virginia’s Farm Market Fresh program helps eligible seniors get fresh, tasty, and nutritious locally grown fruit, vegetables, and cut herbs.  The program also supports local farmers and farmers’ markets in Virginia.

    • If your monthly income is $2322 or below for a one-person household, you qualify.

    • If your monthly income is $3152 or below for a two-person household, you qualify.

How does it work?

  • Participation is limited and applications are accepted on a "first come, first served" basis.

What is provided?

  • If your application is approved, you will receive $50 worth of checks per eligible senior for that growing season.

  • Each check is worth $5 and may be used to purchase fresh, locally grown fruit, vegetables, and cut herbs from participating certified retail farmers market vendors.  *Please note: change cannot be given if the entire $5 is not used.

  • Certified retail farmers market vendors will accept checks for fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables in-season, depending on the produce items available.
