A Matter of Balance (MOB)

This eight-session curriculum supports individuals in identifying fall risks, addresses the fear of falling that many older adults experience; and supports individuals in improving balance. Falls are a major factor in the decline of mobility and function in older adults. As individuals age or are challenged with disabling conditions, they often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. This program is designed to reduce the fear of falling, develop strategies to reduce the risk of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.

Nutrition and Education Program

CVACL operates six Nutrition and Education Sites located throughout Central Virginia. At these Nutrition and Education Sites, individuals 60 and older meet two to three times a week for nutritious hot meals, wellness programs, and education related to healthy living and aging well. Individuals participate in assessment to be enrolled in the programming.

Programming is structured to support individuals in maintaining cognitive and physical function. Activities include age appropriate exercise, cognitive enhancing exercises, structured art sessions, music, nutritional and health related educational sessions, and health screenings. The program is instrumental in preventing malnutrition, isolation, and the complicating conditions resulting from these conditions. A critical component of the Nutrition and Education Sites is socialization. The social atmosphere encourages lively educational conversations, fosters life sharing experiences, and offers opportunities for friendships and camaradery.

Transportation to and from the Nutrition and Education Sites is available. Participating in this program may also give you access to weekly grocery shopping trips and other planned excursions.

Please call 434-385-9070 or email cvacl@cvcl.org to learn more and/or begin the assessment and enrollment process.
